Hummingbird Day is the central coast’s premier family-oriented educational event celebrating one of nature’s vibrant aerial acrobats, the Hummingbird.
Planned activities include:
8 am and 10 am: Morning Bird Tours with Todd Newberry
Please call main office to reserve a spot on these popular tours, free with paid admission to the entire event. Space is limited. Call (831) 502-2998
10 am to 3:45 pm: Special activities for children - Children 7 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
* Take-home Craft making: mobiles, masks, watercolors, necklaces, bird sculptures and Seed Balls to attract hummingbirds at home.
* Children’s bird walks/play
* Face painting

10:30 am: Dr. Martin Quigley is presenting: "Gardening for the Birds: Choosing Plants That Hummingbirds Love"
12:30 pm: Dr. Bruce Lyon is presenting: "Jewels of the Garden: A Darwinian Natural History of Hummingbirds"
2:30 pm: Dr. Clive Bagshaw is presenting: "Hummingbird Iridescence and Leucism"
Expert led Garden Tours and Beginning Birder Tours
10 am to 12:30 pm: Bird-centric tours with Theadora, Graduate Student Researcher with Bruce Lyon and the Golden Crown Sparrow Project.
10 am to 3:45 pm: Photographing the Fastest Birds in the World: throughout the event a number of our talented and dedicated amateur photographers will be "out in the field" to answer questions on techniques for photographing hummingbirds.
10:30 am to 3:30 pm: Hummingbird and Plant-Centric Tours with experienced and knowledgeable volunteer tour guides.
* Scavenge for souvenirs, gifts, and acquire the perfect plant for the perfect place at Norrie's Gift and Garden Shop.
* Delight in an assortment of beverages and delicious healthy food available for purchase. Make it for breakfast and lunch!

Announcing our Hummingbird Day Raffle! Enter to win original photographic art. Entries will be accepted on March 4, 2017 only. No purchase necessary, one entry per person. Raffle is open to adults 18 years+. Need not be present to win. Drawing(s) will occur no later than Wednesday March 8, 2017 and winner(s) will be notified via email by March 10, 2017. Winner(s) will have 60 days from March 10, 2017 to pick up their prize. Prizes unclaimed or left at the Arboretum more than 60 days will be forfeit. Winner(s) agree to have their first name and city of residence published.
All persons entered in the Hummingbird Day raffle will be notified via email of the winner(s) of the framed photographic art no later than March 10, 2017.
